Your profile page has three tabs.

To edit the your profile, follow these steps.

  1. Open your Spotlight app (iOS and Android).

  2. Go to your profile.

You can always get to your profile by clicking on the profile icon in your app's bottom right-hand corner.

Click the big teal button that says "EDIT." 

It's easy to customize your profile by selecting unique profile and header images, adding a name, my why, bio, allies, values, bullhorns, and interests. Click a section more to dive into the process in more detail.


How do I edit my banner and avatar?

Click the big teal "EDIT" button. To edit your banner image and avatar image, click the "CAMERA" icon. You can either take a new photo or upload a picture from your camera roll. 

Note: Header photo, also known as a "banner" recommended dimensions are 1500x500 pixels

Note: Profile photo, also known as an "avatar" recommended dimensions are 400x400 pixels


How do I edit “My Why” and “Bio”?

Inside your profile, click the big teal "EDIT" button to write a text block about your "MY WHY" and "BIO."

A grey text box will appear in which you can input your information.

Click "DONE" in the upper right-hand corner to save.

Note: MY WHY is a space to write your personal reason or mission statement. The maximum number of characters for this space is 125.

Note: BIO is a space to write about your lived experience or general awesomeness. The maximum number of characters for this space is 250.


How do I edit my top Allies?

Your Top 6 Allies is a space to spotlight the organizations that capture your social and civic imagination. These are the organizations you want to work with toward the same purpose and social good goals.

Note: Only organizations show up in the Allies section. It is not a space for individuals unless that individual is also a public person with a brand identity.

To create an ally, follow these steps:

1. Follow organizational accounts. You can either search organizations from the "SEARCH" icon at the bottom of your navigation bar or click "MANAGE." If you click "MANAGE," you can follow organizations and then click update to have them in-network with you.

2. Click on the "EDIT" button in your profile and tap the "PLUS" button under "MY TOP 6" to highlight your favorite organizations. You can choose a maximum of 6 Allies. Once you select the organizations, they will display on your profile.

3. If you want to edit your Top 6 or change your list of organizations, hit the "X" button next to a name. Your "PLUS" button will reappear to provide you with a space to include a different option.

Note: Spotlight's focus is on strengthening social capital. In these networks of relationships among people who live and work in a particular society, we can enable that society to function effectively. When we advocate for and celebrate these organizations, we make our communities and roots stronger and able to fight injustices.


How do I edit my values, bullhorns, interests, and channels?

During your onboarding steps, you selected personal values and bullhorns. With your profile setup, you can edit these selections and select interests. The steps to do each are the same.

To edit and manage your values, bullhorns, and interests (collectively your attributes), follow these steps:

1. Go to your profile page and click the big teal "EDIT" button.

2. Click "MANAGE" and select the attributes you want to choose. Be sure to hit "UPDATE" in the top right-hand corner or at the bottom of the page.

3. To Spotlight specific attributes, click the "+" button under each attribute's corresponding TOP # section.  

Note: Values allow you to spotlight 5 core values, while Bullhorns and Interests will enable you to spotlight 8 top choices. This act helps rank your preferences to allow the platform to personalize content and suggest more relevant content. 

Note: We ask you to focus on values because they invariably influence how we select and define the problems we investigate. How we perceive, think, and act as human beings are largely founded on values. The reason why we ask for these attributes is based on social science and theory. We can find crossroads between people and make better decisions that focus on the social advancement of humanity.


How do I create my first Spot?

Spots are a place to collect your ideas and resources and share your stories. Spots are a hybrid between a blog and a playlist, like a zine. The best practice to create a Spot is to consider the theme for your content. Customization takes place by adding subpages which in turn expands its functionality.

Note: Spots and Spot Pages are in beta mode. The feature will become increasingly robust as we continue down our roadmap. Rollouts to look out for include: calendar events, workflows, articles, and posts. Essentially, your Spot will eventually permit taking bottoms-up campaign efforts to the next level by running nano-nonprofits within each Spot.

To create a Spot, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your account

  2. Click the teal "PLUS" sign at the bottom of the navigation or head to your profile and click the "SPOT" tab.

  3. Click MANAGE MY SPOTS.

  4. On the CREATE A SPOT page, enter a Title, Cover Image, and Description.

  5. Click PUBLISH.

  6. To edit your Spot and add pages click on your Spot from your SPOT tab and click EDIT in the top right-hand corner. 

  7. Add a Moodboard Page to your Spot to your page and enter a title. 

  8. Tap the ADD MORE IMAGES button to add images to your board. You can add photos by clicking UPLOAD FROM CAMERA ROLL or by searching from our media directory. 

  9. Once you select an image, it will dynamically add it to the center of your Moodboard. You can manipulate the size and placement of the picture. 

  10. Click SAVE to save the progress on your Moodboard page.

  11. Click SAVE to save the progress on your Spot.

Note: Make sure you comply with the Spotlight Collective Rules and Terms of Use.


How do I collect my first Sticker?

Your sticker wall is a tab in your profile where you can manage and display digital artwork  which we call Stickers. You find these collectibles through the Spotlight Marketplace - denoted by the market icon on the app's bottom navigation. You can also get to the marketplace from your Sticker wall inside your profile. 

Follow these steps to collect and add stickers:

  1. Tap the Marketplace icon in the bottom right-hand navigation.

  2. Inside the Marketplace, scroll and filter through a directory of art that drives impact, thinking, and inspiration. When you see a sticker you like, click on it to get to the detail page.

  3. Click the teal button that says ADD STICKER TO YOUR PROFILE to add it to your sticker wall. 

  4. The previous action in step 3 will add the sticker dynamically to your wall. You can now move, collage, and edit the size of the sticker by manipulating it with your fingers.

Note: Spotlight is building a marketplace for movements where digital artwork can accelerate change. Art in the marketplace is representative of interests, personality, history, legacy, and the causes that matter.
